Grants are sums of money given to help further the goals of small businesses or individuals. They can be awarded by government entities or private businesses. Unlike a loan, grants do not need to be repaid.
The Scholarship was established in 2019 to memorialize Mary Drouin and her four decades of outstanding contributions in the development of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) methods and consensus engineering standards as applied to ensure safe, effective operation of nuclear power plants worldwide. She was also recognized for her dedicated efforts in contributing to the promotion and global use of these standards by government agencies, industry and academia for current and advanced reactors. She collaborated with others to achieve consensus in addressing challenging issues and served as a mentor to many, particularly other women and young engineers entering the field.
