Grants are sums of money given to help further the goals of small businesses or individuals. They can be awarded by government entities or private businesses. Unlike a loan, grants do not need to be repaid.
The scholarship is a memorial to Jean Fitzgerald who was a very active participant in the Hawai'i Pacific Tennis Association. Jean felt it was important for young tennis players to pursue higher education in order to augment their tennis skills and be successful in other arenas besides the tennis court. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.
