Grants are sums of money given to help further the goals of small businesses or individuals. They can be awarded by government entities or private businesses. Unlike a loan, grants do not need to be repaid.
This scholarship was established to honor Minerva Jean Falcon, the Honolulu Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines from 1996-2000. While in Hawaii, Ambassador Falcon dedicated herself to helping many organizations and promoting projects that benefit all communities throughout the state. Ambassador Falcon established this scholarship in the spirit of giving back to the state of Hawaii, and with generous contributions from many community members, the scholarship will live on for years to come. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.
